Uma Thurman and Princess Alexandra of Greece united recently at Christie’s for a cause dear to both of them: the annual VIP gala and auction to benefit Room To Grow, which they co-chaired. The non-profit group is dedicated to enriching the lives of babies born into poverty, throughout the critical first three years of life. The group provides parent counseling, toys, clothing, and essential items to provide a nurturing environment where babies can develop and thrive.
The diverse group of notables included John Sykes, John Leguizamo, Rick Burns, David Lauren (son of Ralph), and Judy Peabody. Uma Thurman, a board member since 1998, looked radiantly happy — perhaps because her new supportive (not to mention tall, dark, and handsome) hotelier boyfriend, Andre Balazs, was there winking at her from afar. But focused Uma would only talk about the cause at hand and her firm belief in the mission of the children’s organization — a compassion perhaps especially poignant to her this year, as a single mother raising two children while estranged from their father (and her husband), Ethan Hawke.
